Abstract
Providing home energy information to home buyers makes efficiency more salient in purchasing. We study the impact of disclosed energy efficiency information on housing prices in Portland, Oregon after the introduction of a Home Energy Score mandate for houses on the market. We find a $1 decrease in annual energy costs is associated with an approximate increase in housing value of $24 to $40. This effect is stronger for houses that are already energy efficient and for larger houses.
